This route is for those mountaineers who have an adventurous spirit and want to climb Mount Kenya (point Lenana at 16355ft) in a leisurely fashion from a non-tourist route. This climb is also recommended because the climber has a better chance of acclimatizing and getting fit for the climb to Point Lenana
Day 1: Nairobi – Met Station
Transfer by road from Nairobi to Naromoru Park gate and trek to Met Station for Dinner and overnight. This is a good day for acclimatization for the altitude is 10, 000ft above sea Level. A light hike is taken in the afternoon to help acclimatize-LD
Day 2: Met Station – Teleki Valley
Hike up the Taleki Valley to our Mackinder’s camp where there is a spectacular view of the main Peaks taking approximately 4-6hours. Overnight – Mackinder’s Camp-BLD
Day 3: Mackinder’s Camp-Mackinder’s Valley
After an early breakfast, begin the circumnavigation of the main peaks by heading north. One Traverse takes us below the South and West faces on our approach to two Tarn Huts then across The western terminal and into Hausberg Valley and finally over Hausberg Col and into Mackinder Valley taking approximately 5 hours. The highest point reached this day is 15000ft. Our Camp in Mackinder Valley is at altitude of 14200ft. Night will be spent in high altitude tents-BLD
Day 4: Point Lenana
Alpine ascent of the third highest peak. Pt Lenana up the North face little used by tourist. The top should be reached after about four hours of stiff walking. Altitude of point Lenana is 16355ft. We then descend into Taleki Valley and spend the night at our original camp completing a scenic traverse of the mountain.
Day 5: Nairobi
Descend the Mountain and return to Nairobi.
