AT 85: Naromoru route – 3 Days
Mount Kenya lies at the equator and rises to a height of 5,199m. The ascent sees you through rain forests on the slopes, the bamboo belt, then and the moorland leading to the alpine zone and topped by the glaciated summit, Batian and Nelion the highest peaks.
Day 1: Nairobi – Naromoru Gate
0800hrs, you depart Nairobi and drive North through Kikuyu lands with Pineapple and coffee plantations arriving on the slopes of Mount Kenya, Naromoru Park gate in time for picnic lunch. From the park gate it’s a comfortable relaxing walk through mountainous forests to Met station at 3048m for dinner and overnight (3-4 hrs hikes)-LD
Day 2: Met Station – Mackinder’s Camp
After breakfast our climb continues to Mackinder's camp. This hike is approximately 5-7 hrs with a Spectacular view of the main peaks. In the afternoon you have an opportunity to trek into the Talek Valley from the camp (optional). Dinner and overnight at Mackinder's camp-BLD
Day 3: Mackinder’s -Point Lenana-Met - Nairobi
An early morning wake (pre-dawn) attempt of point Lenana in time to view the sunrise from the peak. The descent from the peak has a break at Mackinder’s camp for full breakfast before then continues to Met Station for lunch. After lunch we continue our walk to the park gate to meet your vehicle for your return journey to Nairobi arriving by late afternoon. (This day's walk is approximately 8-9 hrs).
